Rob, And just like in 1978, new forms of interface and computing won't displace the PC anymore than the PC displaced mainframes.

It wasn't just PCs that did it, but the mainframe is displaced alright, by a combination of PCs, workstations and servers. In the 70s, the MF and the minicomputer were essentially 100% of computing. Today, the mainframe might be 10% and the minicomputer is gone. I do agree that the PC is here to stay. Practically every office person in the US has one today, should eventually happen all over the industrialized world as well. Homes should have at least one with mobile devices all around also, as you say.
