Scott, one thing to keep in mind is the issue of the Compaq iPaq H3650. This is the one unit that is simply sold out everywhere. Compaq is ramping sales of this unit. This unit which costs $499 has 32 mb, a futuristic look, a 206 mhz processor (I believe this # is correct), MS Word, MS Excel, and perfect clarity in the outdoors.
I have lived in a world that Microsoft has won every war. I want Palm to win this war, but they don't have anything that comes close to the iPaq H3650. On the other hand, I have had a backorder on the iPaq for 2-months now.
I own quite a bit of Palm stock, and am looking for some type of new Palm product introduction prior to the holiday season. Barring a new Palm product introduction, and a ramping of the iPaq model line, then the current PDA O/S market share figures are skewed in favor of Palm.
I check on a regular basis the status of PDA's. Palm's units are readily found at most locations. The iPaq can not be found anywhere.
Ask any sales rep, at any electronic store, and they will all say one thing: the iPaq is the product that customers demand -- by far -- most frequently.
These are just my opinions, of course, based upon articles, first hand experiences, and store visits. |
