Cha2,

<< Dr J has questioned whether WAP has more than a temporary role in CDMA wireless, since CDMA has always used IP and can connect directly to the internet without intermediary >>

GSM can be used to connect directly to internet as well (using a GSM modem or handset as modem). At issue is how Intermet information is displayed in useful (?) fashion on available wireless handsets.

<< one of the strengths of i mode seems to be that it can be used in lieu of WAP, is there an opportunity for CDMA and i mode to reenforce each other as a means of strengthening the wireless / internet connection? >>

It can be used in lieu of WAP, but it will combine with WAP. Yet another two articles on this topic here (different than the China Post article I referenced last week:

wirelessweek.com

<< using i mode rather than WAP with CDMA with its IP built in, might be >>

A carrier decision.

I think Dr. Jacobs had other alternatives in mind.
