Michael, no I'm not a socialist. My views on private/parochial schools are in line with those of former Governor Romney of Michigan, for whom I worked in the late 60's. He was opposed to any government involvement in funding of private or parochial schools. So am I. If we want change in our pubic schools, it has to come from more citizen involvement at the local level, and particularly in contesting school board members whose main agenda is to get jobs for their friends and family. This is a challenge, particularly in places like upstate NY, where the majority, status quo Republican party is well entrenched, and where Democrats are outnumbered in many areas by as much as three to one. Don't blame the state of public education on the Democrats, at least not in upstate New York!
