I thought Mustang was the large cache version. Am I wrong? If it is it's a lot more than 5% larger and furthermore your assumption about die size and manufacturing cost only holds if both are on the same process. The low output of Athlons from AMD's large fabs strongly suggests AMD's yields stink so no comparison can be made between the two companies manufacturing costs based on die size.
