I'll read up on the marketing hype MSFT has on it's .NET strategy some more.

But perhaps I should clarify my statement - MSFT is not looking to bring back the Glory Days of IBM's Mainframe but if you dig deep enough you will find the same essence governs both IBM's centralized computing environment to MSFT's distributed strategy....namely the ONE VENDOR solution.

So basically you substitute distributed server clusters for the single large mainframe right? Technically they are very different yes but as a business strategy they are not. Both systems seek to control the computing space in a dominant fashion driving new products and services and therefore driving revenues higher (at the consumer's expense).

In this sense, what MSFT's .NET strategy will do is emulate IBM's Glory Days with a distributed computing architecture that will rely more and more on datacenters (distributed ones of course).
