Recent reports from Intel suggest that the rambus memory chips were not tested thoroughly enough under realistic conditions. Their speed superiority may be an illusion. Surely the Rambus R&D people didn't predict that and how could an outsider do so?

I remember that during the period before September 1999 there was a lot of discussion on the Rambus thread about technical issues of speed, latency, etc. Some apparently highly technical posters took opposite sides on these issues. Some were very sure that Rambus chips would not prove to be better than the other new technologies in actual use, and presented calculations to support that view. I sold my RMBS about that time and have not kept up with either the thread or the stock price since then. The point is, some outsiders did predict disappointing performance under realistic conditions. Whether their logic, calculations and conclusions were valid in detail, I can't say.
