The Reagan Bush years was where we accumulated the big debt. Starting during Nam but grew during the 80's (arms race, S+L debacle, etc.) to unprecedented heights. Now finally Clinton + Co. have reversed that process and the debt is shrinking. Clinton wanted a tax cut but Rubin talked him out of it. Rubin saved our economy seven years ago. Why in hell's name would you want to go back to debt-financing a tax-cut mainly for the rich?
