Reliable Nutrition Information from the American Dietetic Association Now Available on WebMDADA, DuPont, WebMD to Collaborate Advertising Campaign Will Inform Consumers PR NEWSWIRE - October 16, 2000 06:01 DENVER, Oct 16, 2000 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- The American Dietetic Association (ADA), the world's largest single organization of food and nutrition professionals, and DuPont (NYSE: DD) today announced an agreement that will enable ADA to make its wealth of authoritative food and nutrition information available to millions of people at www.webmd.com .
ADA's scientifically based information on thousands of food and nutrition topics will be featured on the WebMD Food and Nutrition Channel at www.webmd.com . With approximately 11 million unique visitors per month, WebMD is one of the leading Web sites for both physicians and consumers interested in health information.
DuPont, an investor in WebMD (Nasdaq: HLTH), will work closely with ADA to adapt its existing information sources for www.webmd.com and to generate a continuous stream of new content. Under the agreement, ADA retains ownership of its material published on the site and has control over the content of any ADA-labeled information.
An extensive television advertising campaign will inform the public of this new source of trustworthy nutrition information.
The announcement was made in Denver on the opening day of ADA's annual Food & Nutrition Conference & Exhibition, attended by some 10,000 nutrition professionals from around the world.
"ADA thanks DuPont for this opportunity to communicate with the millions of consumers who now use the Internet as their first source of health care information," said registered dietitian and ADA President Jane White, Ph.D. "With consumers relying more and more on the Internet for nutritional guidance, it is essential that they be able to find a trustworthy, objective source of information. Consumers can have confidence that the ADA-labeled information on the WebMD site is grounded in science, peer-reviewed where appropriate and state of the art," she added.
"As the leading authority on nutrition, the ADA's vast database of food and nutrition information will heighten the quality of the WebMD Food and Nutrition Channel, one of the most frequently visited areas on our site," said Nan Forte, chief convergence officer, executive vice president, WebMD Health. "By partnering with ADA, we'll be able to provide consumers and health care professionals access to the most reliable nutrition information and a meaningful analysis of the issues -- from the obesity epidemic to dietary supplements," she concluded.
"We are proud to be working with ADA, the most recognized and trusted nutrition organization in the world to help bring this science-based information to health professionals and consumers," said J. Erik Fyrwald, president, DuPont Nutrition and Health. "We believe that this collaboration will help strengthen WebMD's position as one of the premier destinations for food and nutrition information on the Internet."
