Shclumberger introduces Java-based smart card USIM

OCT 16, 2000, M2 Communications - Schlumberger Test & Transactions has unveiled a new smart card universal
subscriber identity module (USIM) called USIMERA.

Designed to provide mobile operators with maximum flexibility in the transition to 3G, USIMERA offers smart card technologies on a fully interoperable Java SIM card, with the potential to add applications.

The module is also compliant with the 3GPP Universal SIM card standard and provides according to Schlumberger the
security capabilities all high-value 3G services such as m-commerce m-banking will require, regardless of delivery channel.

In addition USIMERA comes with a number of options, including a public key WAP identity module, and other facilities such as CDMA and TDMA roaming.

Availability and pricing were not revealed.
