from tonight's stockwinners.com

Avanex Corporation (AVNX) designs, manufactures and markets fiber optic-based products, known as photonic processors, which are designed to increase the performance of optical networks. The company's photonic processors offer communications service providers and optical system manufacturers greater levels of performance, reduced complexity and increased cost-effectiveness, as compared to current alternatives. AVNX's customer list includes Osicom, MCI WorldCom, and Hitachi. We are hearing rumors of good news from the company. Among the possibilities is the announcement of a stock split. The company has not split since its February 2000 IPO and the stock is trading just below the $100 level. A split would improve liquidity, by making shares more accessible to a greater number of investors. With 300 million shares authorized and 65 million outstanding, the company has plenty of leeway to make a split declaration. Please note that the company is due to announce its quarterly earnings on October 18th, after the bell. Analysts expect Avanex to post breakeven results. Since going public, the company has come in ahead of Street expectations by an average 4 cents per share. Note also that the firm will host a shareholders meeting on October 24th. Brokers recommend the stock with four "strong buys" and three "buys". In the past 52 weeks, shares have traded between $47 3/8 and $273 1/2. They last changed hands at $97 15/16. Should you decide to invest, consider a stop-loss of $87. (10/16/00)
