California Amplifier Receives Orders for Transceivers from Nortel Networks

CAMARILLO, Calif., Oct. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- California Amplifier (Nasdaq: CAMP) today announced that the Company has received orders from Nortel Networks, Inc. (NYSE: NT; Toronto) for customer premise transceivers for the MMDS and 3.5 GHz Wireless Local Loop frequency bands. These transceivers will be used in Nortel's Wireless DSL system which provides high-speed data service and voice capabilities comparable to cable modem and xDSL offerings over a wideband wireless access channel.

"Licensing of the international 3.5GHz frequencies has recently begun to accelerate and we believe that the size of the international 3.5 GHz market will potentially rival that of the domestic MMDS market," said Kris Kelkar, Vice President of Wireless Access Products at California Amplifier. "As the leading supplier of MMDS transceivers to operators worldwide, we are leveraging our MMDS design concepts to provide a high performance, cost-effective 3.5 GHz product solution."

California Amplifier transceivers have been designed for two-way wireless applications such as high-speed Internet access, private data networking and telephony services. Available in a variety of configurations, these products have been optimized to meet the demand requirements of two-way fixed wireless network architectures. Future generations of the Company's transceiver products are expected to provide higher levels of integration and address issues related to ease of installation in non-line-of-sight environments.
