Andrew, I am not a technical person, but like to invest in tech stocks.
Sometimes, however, common sense can give insights that may or may not
be valid. Your manufacturing capacity figures are overwhelmingly
weighted toward Japanese companies. This tells me that (a) they are
serious about this business, (b) they have something worth maintaining,
protecting and investing in, and (c) it may not be such a hot business
for competitors. By contrast, ETEC, which I think is fairly valued,
spends more on R&D than the sales of any competitor and would seem to
be far more attractively positioned in its segment than a US stepper
company in its.
