I agree. When Groucho Marx said, "I wouldn't be a member of any club that would have me.", the ironic aspects of others joining in with the activities you like repulsing you speaks volumes. The black guy wanted Archie Bunker for President as much as he wanted the Hells Angels to cater his wedding. His wearing of a tee-shirt sporting "100th annual KKK picnic" would have been funny in the same, ironic way. Not everyone thinks satire is funny. Some get real offended because they simply don't see the irony or derision clearly enough. They are way too literal.

Satire is an essential element for political change, IMO. It forces us to recognize the cognitive dissonance we have between our models and the reality of the things they model. This is why there is an appeal for the political cartoon as a communication device in the opinion section.
