there are times of the day and week (e.g. 3-4 p.m. when the market is crashing -g- ) where demand is much greater. Seriously, for video on demand, one of the killer apps, Saturday night will be a monster.

Therein lies the problem with internet via satellite, as well as the advantage. A satellite excels at broadcast, and things like video on demand may be where it really shines. Enormous hard drives and caching could make satellite the preferred medium for braodcasting content. But, the bandwidth ona satellite is fixed, so lumpy demand can lead to problems. Those peaks of which you speak could wreak havoc on systems with limited bandwidth.
