First of all, what is this "gang!" sh#t. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm not a member of his "gang".
curmudgeoness aside, I think MB is just a super nice guy at heart. That's why he connects with all the touchy-feely types on SI, like BoaBabes and FishLegs, and such.
As such, he's really a throwback to those characters in the "feel good" movies of the 30's and 40's, like a Jimmy Stewart kind of guy. You know the type, we're all "part of the gang", and "hey, everything's swell". I've had breakfast with the guy; trust me, his technique, insidious as it is, is to smile you to death. Before I could figure things out, he was smiling my brains out, and I was paying the bill.
