This is exactly right and you just verbalized well what the Byrds needed and didn't get. Clinton was instinctively good with this, whether it was sincere, or had depth or meaning, is debatable. What I am unsure of in my head (as opposed to my heart which always longs to comfort those in pain) is that it's the role of the legislative branch to try to "comfort" when the laws are already in effect to deal with the specific crime. If there is inequity in administering the law, that's a different problem.

I guess I am opposed to more and more laws being added to an already ungainly system in an attempt to solve a problem that arises not from the lack of adequate laws, but from the prejudice and hatred and ignorance in hearts.

I commend you for your amazing aplomb in the face of ethnic and personal insults.
