News Release
Mr. A. Kirk Purdy reports
Viking Energy Royalty Trust has declared unitholder distributions of 21 cents per
unit for the months of October, November and December, 2000. This amount,
consisting of the 10-cent base and an 11-cent topup, will be available to
unitholders of record at the end of each month and payable on the 15th day of the
month following. This increase in distributions was made in light of continuing
strong commodity prices, steady production and lower debt levels as a result of
the recent financing.
These distributions, totalling 63 cents for the fourth quarter, will bring total
declared distributions for fiscal year 2000 to a record $1.71 per unit. Total
distributions paid in calendar 2000 will be $1.70 per unit. It is expected that about
80 per cent of distributions received in 2000 will be a return of capital, and the
remaining 20 per cent will be taxable as income.
In the current environment, with robust and volatile commodity prices, the trust
will review and announce its distribution policy at the beginning of each quarter.
The next review and announcement will be made in January, 2001.
