Encompass Awarded $30 Million Contract for Atlanta's Georgia World CongressCenter

HOUSTON, Oct. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Encompass Services Corporation (NYSE: ESR), the premier facilities services company in the United States, today announced that it has been awarded a contract worth approximately $30 million to provide mechanical services for the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.

The company's Atlanta mechanical services business unit will install heating, ventilation, air conditioning and plumbing equipment for a one million square foot expansion of convention, ballroom and meeting space at the exhibition and convention center. The contract, awarded to Encompass by general contractor Hardin Russell Mitchell, calls for the installation of approximately seven miles of underground piping and 5,500 tons of air conditioning.

"A key component of our strategy is to drive growth through our operating locations," said Joe Ivey, president and chief executive officer of Encompass. "This sizable award is an example of our success in executing this strategy, and of the excellent reputation our locations have in their markets. It's particularly significant because it indicates substantial growth for Encompass in Atlanta, which is a target market for us."

Ivey also noted that the backlog in the southeast United States, the company's largest region, totals approximately $490 million.

The convention center complex already consists of Phillips Arena, home of the NBA Atlanta Hawks and the NHL Atlanta Thrashers; the Georgia Dome, home of the Atlanta Falcons; and CNN Center.

Work is currently under way on the project; completion is expected in June 2002.
