Robert, regarding your comments <<While the REBOC engineers are crunching their numbers and taking 30-minute coffee/Net surfin breaks, certainly, more nimble and higher risk takers will come up with viable convergence offerings and "steal" vast portions of the telcom/entertainment/Net markets>>

Upon what hands on experience in the telecom industry do you base your stereotypes and generalizations about RBOC engineers? (Reading Dilbert doesn't count.) It's easy to put down those who may not fit your perfect image. Its much harder to figure out how to implement new technology on a live, real world network with real customers. The solutions are beginning to evolve from every corner of the computer, networking, cable, telecom, broadcast, and consumer electronics industry. Its still the top of the first inning. Those who work in the industry can gain a lot from collegues in every sector, including rivals and competitors. The one sure thing that will slow down implementation of evolving telecom technology is shutting out or prematurely writing off ideas, just because they might originate from a large RBOC or any other corner of the industry...
