<"Metro is up for grabs," Barron said. "Metro business overall will be five to 10 times what the market for the core has been. It's just about to explode that next calendar year. We have captured mindshare for that space. "Lucent is making the most market share in the metro space.">

All this excitement over the 10G long-haul optical, that has catapulted NT from being a distant second Telecom manufacturer to a close second with high earnings growth, is just the beginning.

Now we are looking at developing metro (a market that is many times bigger than long haul, and also developing the next generation of long haul (40G, OC-768).

The optical networking wars have just begun, why couldnt LU position themselves to execute in these other product lines?

I think that it is still early in the game, and there is also now a clearer roadmap for these markets. The biggest manufacturer (LU) should have an advantage in these young markets.

The mis-management is all out in the open now, with everyone screaming for the CEOs head. I would think that positive change would HAVE to happen now to fix LUs problems, and position for these other markets.
