Anyone who has been following the prolific design effort on DDR would be aware that DDR was designed to go to 4 DIMMs on 4-layer motherboards. The reasons for going to 6 layer boards would be: (1) Escape problems getting routes out of the memory controller chip. (2) Time to market. (3) Some other component on the board (i.e. dual CPUs, etc.)

I'm not sure those are the only reasons. For example, there may be electrical reasons to use stripline rather than microstrip. (Note the Hyundai 760 MB appears to be six layer). Maybe you've seen spec's with stackups?

BTW, I personally believe that Tenchusatsu is a straight shooter. If he states an opinion and later finds contradictory info, he's the first to share it.
