MERQ Interactive Q3 earnings beat forecasts

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Oct 17 (Reuters) - Internet software maker Mercury Interactive Corp (NasdaqNM:MERQ - news) Tuesday reported a third quarter profit that was higher than analyst forecasts, and said its revenues rose sharply.

The company said it earned $16.7 million or 18 cents per diluted share in the quarter, double the $8.2 million or nine cents per share earned in the year ago period.

Most analysts had been forecasting earnings of about 16 cents per share, according to First Call/Thompson Financial, which surveys results.

Mercury said revenues rose to $79.5 million from $47.5 million a year ago.

``The strength in our business shows that performance management solutions are becoming an indispensable component for companies deploying and maintaining complex, business critical web-based applications,'' Chief Executive Amnon Landan said in a statement.
