New MainSail Product Line Aimed at CLECs, ILECs and IXCs
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Terayon Communication Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: TERN - news) a leading worldwide supplier of carrier-class voice, data and video broadband networking solutions, today launched at the NCF Show in Chicago, a new multi-service optical and copper access platform for the North American telecommunications market. The MainSail product family offers carriers cost-effective networking systems designed to deliver services from the optical network edge through the metro area and copper access network and on to the subscriber, eliminating multiple network elements and lowering operational and overhead costs.
The product family provides aggregation through an integrated access platform that provides fiber and copper network connectivity and can reside in a central office, collocation or remote site. A wide range of voice and data services are delivered to customers by a series of integrated access devices, which are located at customer premises.
``MainSail's aim is to provide revenue generating service delivery over an access platform that covers all bases when it comes to network connectivity,'' said Bill Waters, general manager for telco broadband systems for Terayon. ``It is flexible enough to be used as an ATM optical transport platform on fiber rings or as an integrated DSLAM and GR303 voice gateway in a central office.''
``As networks evolve and the optical edge converges with copper access, MainSail can bring fiber and copper together intelligently in one platform. This means savings in cost, space and time for our customers -- all from a solid company with an established track record of over one million voice-over-DSL lines installed,'' Waters added.
Terayon MainSail Integrated Access Platform
The MainSail 3000, 3100 and 8000 platforms aggregate a broad variety of physical (OC-3/12/48, DS3, DS1, xDSL, Ethernet, V.35) and logical (TDM, Frame Relay, IP, ATM) interfaces to reduce operating costs and allow carriers to react more quickly to deliver services to their customers. The MainSail platform can be configured as one or a combination of several network elements including:
SONET Add Drop Multiplexer (ADM) GR303 voice gateway with TDM or ATM network interface Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM) Digital Access Cross Connect System (DACS) and Digital Multiplexer (M13 Mux)
MainSail's multi-service capability is made possible by its unique design, which consists of custom design FPGAs and distributed client-server software architecture. The non-blocking ATM switching engine provides multiple classes of service, connection admission control, and traffic policing and shaping. This allows service providers to fully utilize available bandwidth while managing numerous quality of service (QoS) levels. Terayon's MainSail defines a new class of integrated access platform that combines high port density, low price per port and a full complement of interfaces for copper and fiber networks.
Terayon MainSail Integrated Access Device Family
The MainSail 300/400/500 IADs integrate voice, data and Internet services over a single or dual high-capacity network facility. MainSail IADs minimize deployment time and are flexible, economical solutions for high-end residential and small to medium-sized businesses. They can work together with MainSail's IAPs to provide unmatched line-powered lifeline service remote network management.
