>> I'm a long term investor not a trader. Some people on this thread are traders and that's ok. There are many investment methods that work in parallel.
I've got to take exception with your comments, Eric. Trading is not a form of investing. At its best, it's an exercise in arbitrage; at its worst, it's gambling. If you're good and lucky, you can make money at trading, but it will never make you rich. Only investing can do that.
I speak from personal experience, as I am primarily an investor but also trade options. I limit my participation in that arena to a small percentage of my portfolio, and while I find it fascinating and profitable, rely solely on fundamental analysis (Gorilla Game) and long term buy & hold to build wealth.
Based on my observations on SI, which go back to 1995, most of the acrimony on SI is due to the inability of traders and investors to communicate. Their metrics differ so widely that they might as well be speaking different languages. As well, it seems that virtually all bears are traders, while bulls fall into both camps.
