INTERDIGITAL'S ACTIVE RECRUITING CAMPAIGN INCREASES ENGINEERING TEAM 60% YEAR-TO-DATE;
Company Continues Its Aggressive Hiring Plan


King of Prussia, PA, October 17, 2000 . . . InterDigital Communications Corporation (Nasdaq: IDCC), a leading developer of advanced wireless technologies, today reported that it has increased its engineering team by 60% year-to-date. InterDigital's engineers work in the Company's engineering and design facilities located in King of Prussia, PA and Melville, NY. The growth in the team is a result of InterDigital's aggressive work to continue to enhance its technology and product development teams. The Company has hired more than 60 engineers, bringing the total number of full-time engineers to approximately 160. InterDigital aims to hire an additional 30 engineers by the end of 2000.

The aggressive recruiting program focuses on engineers with solid analytical skills, Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) software expertise, and systems architecture expertise. To support the development of its Third Generation (3G) technology, InterDigital is working to continue dramatic growth in its engineering teams and other disciplines throughout the next two years.
