LOL, Tom, a dial-up/ phone line connection is NOT a guarantee that your ISP isn't having problems, servers buggy (like SI), all the lines are busy, the modem you connect to is 28K when you are 56K, etc... etc....

There is no 100% reliable connection.

I have heard many people say DSL sucks, and switch to cable. I never asked why, as I didn't care. As long as I can download a new version of software that is 60MB in 5-10 minutes I am happy. Do that on a 56K, and it would take you a couple days.

Nothing is fool proof. Telephone lines have been around for so long, they have ironed out the bugs (Phone, not data). And our office phones rely on power, and it seems ever year the power goes out, and you know what? No phones.
