Sawtek Receives Record CDMA Base Station Filter Order for Chinese Telecommunications Market

ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 18, 2000--Sawtek Inc. (Nasdaq:SAWS) announced today that it has received one of its largest orders for CDMA base station filters in the company's history. The order, from one of the world's leading manufacturers of infrastructure equipment, will begin shipments in the current quarter and will continue through June 2001. It represents the first significant order for CDMA base station filters to be used in the Chinese telecommunications market.

Gary A. Monetti, Chief Executive Officer, stated, "We are excited about the explosive growth potential of the Chinese telecommunications market, not only for infrastructure filters, but handsets as well. We have been shipping GSM base station filters for China, but the recent interest in deploying national CDMA and future 3G networks could provide additional significant long-term growth opportunities. This order is a direct result of the successful implementation of our strategy to dominate our core markets, including filters for base stations, expand our handset product offerings, and target new emerging markets for our technology. The diversity of our product portfolio continues to be our strength."
