(Off Topic) The Election

Voting for Gore

Last night during the debates, Al Gore talked briefly about his confidence in the future of downsizing government
through the use of technology.

Some of us have been behind this effort on the local level for a number of years. For example it should be possible to
fill out minor permit and license forms, transfer payments, receive electronic notification from municipalities of tax
payments, getting information on properties for planning and subdivision purposes etc. all over the internet.
Unfortunately this level of government operations will NEVER, I repeat NEVER be done from the local level up. It takes
a State effort at the least.

This is where I part company with those that seem to see the Federal government as only capable of bureaucracy.
The local level is bothe capable of bureaucracy, nepotism, and incompetence. Its hard to get to the national level in
politics or in government if you are incompetent. It's easy at the local level.

Comparing the two candidates in their understanding of technology is no comparison. I'm exactly George Bush's age,
and most people my age have not, repeat NOT grown up with a familiarity with technology. George isn't comfortable
with technology, isn't likely to use it to modernize and downsize government. Gore is just the opposite.

For that reason alone it is worth voting for Gore.

For those that see any involvement of the Feds in anything as bad, I want to remind you that the Feds have controlled
the economy since the Roosevelt administration. You may not like it but it is a fact that what Washington does has a
direct effect on your business. They pass the laws which govern the economy. They run the regualtory agencies that
deal or do not deal with the monopolies.

The bottom line is that big government exists and isn't going away until we do to it what the micro-processor did to the
mainframe. It's up to people in the technology industries to downsize government.

With Gore there is an opening for just this possibility.

I'm voting for him and I hope you are.
