I think you must distinguish between PC and enterprise software. PC software is being commoditized (i.e., Linux, Solaris, etc.). But there is tremendous value in enterprise software that can save large congolomerates millions or even billions of dollars a year. ORCL saved a billion in one year! How much would GM, GE and other large congolmerates save if they implemented such software.

There will always be value in large, sophisticated enterprise software apps.
