This kind of "voting" happens all the time. The purpose of society is to provide a time-weighted average. Many people thought it was a sin to show bare ankles 100 years ago. Even the most devote Christians don't hold to this now. So, has "sin" changed? No, but morality has. In some countries, people eat afterbirth (they actually asked me if I wanted to keep it. Yuck!) I asked why and that was the answer. Sounds like some sort of cannibalism to me, but what do I know? "No thank you!"

So really Greg, morality is loosy goosy already. We are all working from our prejudices. Some of us don't have the hubris to suggest that our prejudices are the will of God. History suggests that those who do this look like idiots 100 years later. That is moral hubris.

The reason you and I agree on anything is because we are in the same society. Saudi Arabia has an absolute prohibition on public nudity. Most states in the US don't. The Saudi people think it is a "sin"; most people here don't.

My morality is based upon my observed harm to other creatures and people, my taking of resources relative to others, and how well I live relative to others. Compassion comes from putting yourself in someone else's shoes and walking a mile in them. That is all it is. It is easy to do that when you have enough to eat. Not so easy when you have your kids starving. Or you are starving.
