<< The whole idea that software is merely a byproduct is asinine, and I am being generous in that description:-) >>

'absurd' , 'asinine' , whatever you want to call it, it's just simply wrong. SUNW, ORCL, MSFT are all software companies. Software takes effort to create. You don't get effort without paying for it. JC is wrong. Software IS the future. Software worth using will not be free.

Look at PALM today. The stock has been very strong lately. The reason is that they have taken a leadership position in the SOFTWARE for a new computing medium. The handheld PC that looks like it will take a majority of the market will run the PALM operating system. PALM makes the software that will dominate that space.

PALM themselves have stated that they see their future as a software company, not a device manufacturer. They are currently licensing their OS to HAND and other device manufacturers. This is the future of PALM. Software is the future.

SUNW knows this, MSFT knows this, ORCL knows this, PALM knows this. Why doesn't JC know this?
