I am dubious about the idea of market makers accumulating shares. First, it ties up capital for an indeterminate length of time. Secondly, they would be just as vulnerable as anyone else to the possibility that the technology doesn't work and the stock value goes to zero.

I also don't quite understand why they would care whether the price is low or high. When the bid/ask spread is 50% at .12/.18, they make 6 cents a share. But when the bid/ask is 1.00/1.10, even though the difference is only 10%, they make 10 cents a share.
