BB-- Self-respecting Italians don't go anywhere the Germans go. If they really must stay in Italy, they vacation in Sardinia, or perhaps on the southern Adriatic coast. But they much prefer to go abroad, mostly to exotic places that are also warm. The South Pacific was in favor a few years ago. Now, if you're on a budget you go to Jordan or, if you want a real resort, to Sharm el Sheik. If you're not, you go to the Caribbean, Mexico, Guatemala and the like. Or Africa: Africa's very popular. Morocco and Tunisia are sort of normal; the more adventurous (and better-off) go on safaris or to places like Madagascar. The Greek islands and Turkey still get some custom, but everyone's already been there and so would rather go somewhere else. China has never been of much interest, as it isn't very comfortable.
