Another reason that Al Gore will be bad for the oil business.

A friend of mine that has some oil production in Texas recently had an incident that will get MUCH worse under a Gore presidency.

This friend has some tank batteries (that store oil at the wellsite) plus a saltwater tank that has an open top on it. Recent requirements are that any open tank must have bird netting on it, so birds won't mistake it for fresh water. Anyway, as the nets get older they tend to sag into the tanks and on this occasion there was some saltwater up over the net. When the railroad commission (which is the governing body for the oil industry in Texas) stopped by to check the lease, there were 5 dead birds in this tank.

These birds were three robins, a roadrunner, and one mockingbird. The birds had to be sent off for an autopsy, then a fine was levied at $600 per bird, but if you appealed the fine, then your liability could be much larger. If these would have happened to have been migratory birds, such as a dove, which we actually hunt in the area, then the fine would have been $15,000 per bird. Talk about insanity.

Under a Gore administration this will be MUCH worse. And you wonder why more and more oil companies are prospecting overseas.
