You think those numbers need excuses? Do you fail to see that regardless of the IPC, the P4 would offer far higher performance then either P3 or Athlon? That P4 would outperform P3 on the same process by a wide margin?

You think Intel needs to build a defense for performance far beyond anything available on the desktop today, based on your numbers?

I think you need to examine your own thinking.
