Larry, the flash memory market for INTC, AMD, SSTI products is embedded memory, which has the following properties:
(a) not encased in plastic, so not removable
(b) has low capacity, typically about 2 mb, suitable
for programs, small files, address/phone number lists
(c) slow read/write times, suitable for limited number
of edits/changes
(d) not much cheaper than compact flash,
but smaller in size because it is on a chip
The compact flash used in digital cameras is also capable of being used in portable or hand held computers because it functions exactly like a disk drive, in terms of how the computer sees it. The properties of the secure digital card are similar, except that the envelope is smaller, the cost is a bit higher, and it has certain security features useful in data access applications on the Internet. |
