E-Stamp Named as the Authorized Internet Postage Provider for the United States Navy
E-Stamp(R) Internet Postage Helps U.S. Navy Manage Mail Operations and Reduce Mailing Costs
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Oct. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- E-Stamp Corporation (Nasdaq: ESTM - news), a leading provider of secure Internet-based transactions, today announced that they have been recommended as the authorized Internet postage provider for the United States Navy.

After completion of a sixty-day trial in three locations, the U.S. Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) encouraged official Navy use of E-Stamp Internet Postage. The three test locations included: the U.S. Navy ROTC unit at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and two U.S. Naval ships, the USS Fletcher and USS Paul Hamilton, both home-ported at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

On October 10, 2000 NAVSUP sent an official authorization and recommendation to small Naval commands around the world, to purchase and use E-Stamp Internet Postage in their respective locations. The U.S. Navy operates postal centers worldwide including postal locations aboard United States ships, at Naval bases and at recruiting, ROTC and Reserve Training offices.

``The Navy is pleased with the outcome [of the tests],'' said a Navy spokesperson following the sixty-day trial. ``We [have] recommend[ed] Navy wide use of the [E-Stamp] product.''

``E-Stamp Internet Postage is a great tool for us,'' an E-Stamp Internet postage user from one of the test ships responded. ``The E-Stamp program has an excellent report feature. It has saved numerous hours otherwise spent tracking each and every stamp that we use. In addition, it has saved us money by forcing us to use the correct address, including APO/FPO (military) addresses, instead of putting stamps on an envelope and hoping the envelope doesn't return to us.''

``The unique advantage of the E-Stamp solution that appealed to the Navy is its capability to work off-line,'' said Robert (Bo) Ewald, CEO of E-Stamp Corporation. ``Many of the Navy ships spend months at sea and don't always have an Internet connection. E-Stamp's solution allows the user to log onto our site, download a quantity of postage onto a small, secure electronic vault and then print the postage as needed directly from their PC without the need to remain connected to the Internet.''

The benefits of E-Stamp Internet Postage for the Navy revolve around their need for security, managing mail operations and reducing mailing costs. Since postage can be downloaded from the Internet and stored locally on a PC, there is no need for prolonged Internet connections. Also, by working off-line, Navy mailers will not have to upload their mailing addresses to a third party server, thus protecting sensitive data and ensuring privacy. Additionally, E-Stamp has created a special web site specifically for the Navy where Naval commands can order the product and interact with the company in a secure and trusted environment.

In November, E-Stamp will be attending ``NLC2000''; a logistics conference conducted by the American Society of Naval Engineer's, ASNE, and the International Society of Logistics, SOLE, in co-sponsorship with the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marine Corps. E-Stamp was invited by NAVSUP to show their E-Stamp Internet Postage product at this conference of between 800 and 1,000 attendees, including high-ranking military and civilian personnel. Other exhibitors at the conferences include Boeing, Concurrent Technologies, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon and Logicon.

The U.S. Navy is the second federal government agency to utilize E-Stamp Internet Postage. In September the Department of Defense, Office of the Inspector General procured E-Stamp Internet Postage for 52 sites across the country. The DOD OIG decided to use the E-Stamp product to replace their existing mail meters to cut costs and improve mailing efficiency at these locations.

``Government agencies represent a huge opportunity for E-Stamp,'' added Ewald. ``Many of these agencies run small to medium sized, mail-intensive offices that are in need of a more efficient and cost-effective way to handle their everyday mailing and shipping needs. The recommendation and authorization from the Navy represents E-Stamp's commitment to meeting these needs and supporting our customers with products that best fit their objectives and operations. We look forward to offering our services and solutions to other branches of the government in the future.''
