Clinton is probably both an object of envy and of scorn to Gore. On the one hand, he came from nowhere to succeed in gaining the highest office in the land, no small achievement. On the other hand, he is a small state demagogue with a Georgetown veneer, a sort of Huey Long with a Vidal Sassoon makeover, and elbowed his way past the more deserving, including Gore. Just as George Wallace, originally a racial moderate, decided early in his career that he would never be "outni*****ed again", so Gore has decided that he had to learn demogoguery from Clinton, so he would never be trumped again.......
