All this "first cause" stuff denies what may be the obvious answer! The first cause may be dispersed in time and space and is an event that doesn't have a start or an end. If you are on a treadmill and you suddenly appear on the treadmill and eventually die and leave the treadmill, saying that the treadmill had to have a first cause denies that the treadmill may be eternal. Sure if you look at things in your inertial frame, it appears that things start and stop but there is no reason to believe that these questions even apply to the treadmill itself.
