RE the importance of Wireless Internet, in the article you referenced entitled “DoCoMo shows Microsoft wireless gizmo”, the following statement appears:

Sun appears to have won the platform war in Japan: if you've an idea, you code it in Java, and send it over the ether, without a second thought for reaching for the Win32 or Symbian programming manual.

The author could have added, “When Sun or anyone else programs in Java for embedded devices, they use WIND’s Java tools.” We know WIND accounts for about 50% of all embedded Java design wins. In the emerging 3G wireless space, supported by WIND’s CofE with Intel for xScale architecture for one example and Ericsson’s Bluetooth arrangement for another, WIND’s market share will probably shoot up beyond 50%.

I recently received email from a European who made a number of interesting points about the timing of 3G in Europe. He also provided evidence that WIND is working in the 3G arena with every major OEM with a footprint in Europe attacking the space: Nokia, Siemens, Ericsson, Alcatel and Motorola.
