You're right about the 833, I was confusing the 514 Alpha FP score, which was a 667 machine. Of course, the P4 doesn't quite touch the 883 Alpa FP score, 599.

As for the "sour grapes", did you ever actually find a commercial application that shipped with a binary produced by the Intel compiler, Elmer? I'm sure the spec binaries get used a lot in day to day production in the real world.

I'm sure the wheels are spinning full time on how to explain away the importance of all that "legacy" x87 code, too. Legacy is only good when Intel says it's good, right?
