I think one of the questions is will it be FTTH or will FTTx only go so far as to the buiding (multi-dwelling) and to the curb (green box - where copper distribution takes over). Seems to me that the low hanging fruit is the fiber to the building because many of these building already sit on the metro ring. All they need is a distribution box, some fiber in the risers and bada-bing...good to go. The FTTH model is more difficult because streets will have to be dug up - at least for existing homes. Do they dig up to the green box or do they lay it in the street like the cableco's did with coax? Also, there's the issue of PON technology being too expensive today... Just thinking out loud.
