Heinz, I was watching the history channel last night about farm equipment ( sorry Myth -no sheep -g-) It was estimated that the tractor eliminated the need for 20 million draft animals -horse, oxen and freed up 20-80( not sure which) million acres of pasture ( grazing land) and 80 million acres of feed land. Early combines required 40 horses and 11 men to operate developed into a gas powered single operator machine. To put the acreage into perspective I think they said there is one billion acres of farmland in the US today. No mention of kero cobs though -g- gee and I thought productivity was invented in 1990's by the PC . Mike
