ABC Rejects Request To Rerun Debate

WASHINGTON (AP) - Al Gore's campaign will not be allowed to rebroadcast Tuesday's presidential debate, according to ABC News, which filmed the event and owns the footage.

The Democrat's campaign had asked permission Wednesday to rebroadcast the entire 90-minute debate with Republican George W. Bush in some television markets.

But ABC News, which filmed the debate for all networks to share in what is known as a ``pool'' arrangement, says the film is only for use by those media organizations, a spokeswoman said.

``The pool tapes are not made available to any other entity than the networks,'' said spokeswoman Francine Cornish.

The television networks often use a single camera for footage when space is limited.

Gore spokesman Douglas Hattaway said the campaign is disappointed.

``We think it would benefit voters to have another opportunity to hear a very enlightening discussion of the issues,'' Hattaway said.
