Avici, the only scalable core router? That was the comment made during today's conference call (Avici Q3 earnings), and unfortunately, it was correct! Is anybody the least bit concerned that Juniper's high-end M-160 does not scale, and so is maxed out at 80 Gbps? Sure, its better than the GSR, but other vendors, led by Avici, will soon be delivering scalable core routers that range in the hundreds of gigabits, thus eliminating the need for clustering and forklift upgrades every two years. My question is, has JNPR won the battle with Cisco but is about to lose the coming war for the core?
