Rambus....

Littered with glitches and yet the stock is up in excess of 400% from a year ago. After the comments by Barrett, RMBS stock was UP 6 yesterday and 11+ today. Perhaps the stock is telling us that RMBS has come of age and Intel needs RMBS as much or more than RMBS needs Intel.

Professionally, it's always best to look at ALL the possibilities. Yeah, sure, maybe Rambus is up because of dramatic news related to revenue growth or a new design win, or an announcement of licensing agreement with another member of the Dramurai.

Alternatively, maybe it's up because the Naz had an awesome day, and the whole board is green. Maybe it's up 400% in the past because of crossing the chasm in workstations in December/January (knocking down a very small pin), followed by the sudden unexpected turn of events related to claiming IPR for SDRAM/DDR, the potential perceived windfall that could follow.

The more important question is this: what will be it's longterm potential if Micron successfully holds out, or Intel abandons it after 2003, as permitted contractually? And when will these missteps be factored in to the stock price.......2001? 2002?

I'm neither for nor against Rambus. But I am in favor of longterm gorillas/kings with a high return/risk ratio. In light of Barrett's statements about Rambus being a mistake for Intel, would you consider Rambus a high return/risk ratio?
