NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) - It was a debate turned mock debate Thursday, with Sen. Joseph Lieberman's opponent squaring off against a cardboard cutout of ``No Show Joe.''

Republican Senate candidate Philip Giordano had the stage to himself for the bit of political theater after Lieberman, who is running for both vice president and Senate, canceled his debate appearance.

Giordano called it ``a slap in the face to the state of Connecticut'' that Lieberman found time to appear on Regis Philbin's television program in New York Thursday, but did not drive 120 miles along Interstate 95 for the Connecticut debate.
