Stockhawk,
This problem is multifaceted, much more than a simple either/or, on/off. I personally believe in "Bruce". He's an ex-patriot, living abroad by choice or circumstance, perhaps harboring some deep secrets, such as the real ins and outs of San Francisco, of which I suspect he has given us only hints from his total, clearly intimate, knowledge. He may have abscounded with someone's IP, or perhaps his money, or maybe even his bandwidth, and thus needs to keep a low, or present a low, profile.
What better way to accomplish this than to obscure and conceal your true identity than by stealing your own. Leave the country with your own passport, pursue your own profession, travel with your own wife and family, even maintain a household with them. And pretend they've been hijacked, you are who you say you are, but pretend that's false, and that even they are not who you say they are. No amount of probing will unmask the lie because there isn't one. You become your own best "cover." Man, that's true genius, precisely what I would be expecting from my man Bruce.
For those who really do think Bruce isn't Bruce, there is no similarly elegant explanation. All this cyber-bot, post-bot, AI algorithims, group identity fraud is just a bunch of hooey. Far too complex. Bruce, the real Bruce, prefers it simple. I'm telling you, man....
Bruce is Bruce, no matter what he says.
