Do you know anything about the mechanism whereby bismuth is effective? Is it possible that patients can effectively self-medicate with over-the-counter Pepto-Pepcid (PepPep...... :-)?

That is, are antibiotics tryly required to deal with the bug? How does bismuth contribute?
